FAQs

A forging press is a device that applies pressure to induce plastic deformation in metal, primarily used for metal forming. Its core principle involves applying progressively increasing pressure through a die to the workpiece, causing uniform plastic deformation to achieve the desired shape and properties. Forging presses typically include mechanical, hydraulic, screw-type, and other variants, suitable for diverse applications. Our primary forging presses are mechanical type.

Forging presses apply progressively increasing pressure through vertical punches or dies, causing plastic deformation of the workpiece within the die cavity. Mechanical forging presses utilize flywheels to store energy, transmitting power via crankshaft mechanisms, while hydraulic forging presses employ high-pressure fluid systems to drive piston movement. This gradual pressure application prevents metal fracture while achieving uniform material flow and grain refinement, thereby enhancing part strength and performance.

Power Press Tonnage = 1.3 × Workpiece Size × Workpiece Thickness × Material shear strength / 10000

When selecting equipment, production requirements such as forging dimensions, thickness, material properties, and production scale must be considered to choose a forging press capable of meeting these demands.

Key parameters and characteristics requiring special attention include nominal pressure, stroke length, closed height, stroke rate, automation level, machining precision, and safety performance.

  • Open die forging:The die does not fully enclose the workpiece, allowing it to flow freely between dies. Suitable for large or complex-shaped parts (such as forged shafts, ring components, connecting rods, etc.), but requires manual operation.
  • Closed-die forging: The die fully encloses the workpiece, forcing metal into the cavity under high pressure. Suitable for high-precision and complex-shaped parts (such as gears, bolts, wheel hubs, etc.), but demands rigorous die design and process control
  • Hot Forging: Performed above the metal's recrystallization temperature (typically above 1200°F or 650°C), this process improves metal plasticity and reduces deformation resistance through heating. It is suitable for shaping complex geometries and high-stress components.
  • Cold Forging: Conducted at room temperature or slightly above, this method requires no heating. It is ideal for precision parts and high-volume production, yielding high surface finish quality.

Press forging deforms metal through continuous pressure application, suitable for large-sized, complex-shaped parts like automotive components and heavy industrial equipment.

Hammer forging deforms metal through repeated impact (hammering), suitable for small-sized, high-stress components like tools and molds.

Primary types of forging presses include:

Mechanical: Utilizes flywheel and crankshaft mechanisms, suitable for low-speed, high-precision closed-die forging.

Hydraulic: Provides high precision and flexibility via hydraulic systems, suitable for complex shapes and high-tonnage requirements.

Screw-type: Driven by a screw mechanism, suitable for specific processes.

We specialize in manufacturing high-quality mechanical forging presses.

Forging presses are commonly used to manufacture complex-shaped components such as: vessels, shafts, and gears for heavy industrial equipment; automotive engine components and transmission parts; hammers, molds, and other metal tools.
